Interested in becoming a board member?

Check out the descriptions of each role below and the qualifications for each board position. Elections are held each year at our Annual Meeting in September with the yearly term beginning October 1st.


PARLIAMENTARIAN
1)      Assure Board’s observance of parliamentary procedures/order at meetings using Robert’s Rules of Order;
2)      Complete familiarity with By-Laws and Standing Rules and assure Board observance of same; and
3)      Requirement: Must be an Active member of NEFPA. This is the only appointed position.

SECRETARY
1)      Prepare and maintain Board meeting minutes;
2)      Prepare and maintain Membership meeting minutes;
3)      Obtain meeting minute approval by the Board;
4)      Additional preparation and planning of activities as needed; and
5)      Requirement: Must be an Active member of NEFPA.

TREASURER
1)      Maintain and balance accounts of the Association;
2)      Prepare and provide sufficient copies of the Treasurer’s Report showing an ongoing accounting of financial status for each Board meeting;
3)      Prepare proposed annual operating budget for ensuing year for approval by the members at the annual meetings;
4)      Coordinate annual filings with the State and Association’s CPA as required; and
5)      Requirement: Must be an Active member of NEFPA.

NALA LIAISON
1)      Notify Treasure and arrangement payment to NALA of NEFPA’s annual Affiliate Renewal dues (due October 1st);
2)      Attend NALA Convention/Seminar;
3)      Report to Board and membership on all NALA activities;
4)      Coordination of CLA review courses and/or study groups;
5)      Prepare semiannual reports to NALA (copy to President);
6)      Report to Board and membership on all FAPA activities; and
7)      Requirements: Must be an Active member of NEFPA and an Active member of NALA and a CLA/CP.


VICE PRESIDENT – COMMITTEE LIAISON
1)      Solicit committee participation among the members (create and promote committee sign-up sheets at membership luncheons) and coordinate activities of all committees;
2)      Ensure that each committee is meeting on a regular basis;
3)      Contact each committee chairperson at least one week prior to next scheduled Board meeting; collect reports from each Chair and prepare report to Board at its meeting;
4)      Serve as spokesperson for committees at Board meetings or, as necessary, arrange for any committee chairperson to attend such meeting;
5)      Updates and maintains the Job Bank; and
6)      Requirement: Must be an Active member of NEFPA.

2ND VICE PRESIDENT – MEMBERSHIP
1)      Review and approve membership applications;
2)      Maintain membership database and roster, provide membership and Board with current roster at each meeting;
3)      Work with Membership Committee regarding development of programs to encourage membership, including assisting with Annual Membership Mixer;
4)      Work with local paralegal schools to encourage membership;
5)      Maintain NEFPA Website, Social Media sites, and Newsletters; and
6)      Requirements: Must be an Active member of NEFPA. Candidates for the office of Second Vice President must have previously served a minimum of one (1) year on the Board of Directors within three (3) years prior to the year in which they intend to hold office as Second Vice President.

1ST VICE PRESIDENT
1)      Coordination of monthly Membership meetings:
a.       Arrange speakers, facilities, menu selections, send notice/announcement and reminders as necessary and retrieve RSVP’s via email/website registration
b.       Preparation of attendance list and menu costs
c.       Assist with check in
2)      Coordination of Seminars (in cooperation with Events and Activities Committee):
a.       Assist in developing topics, speakers, facilities, vendors, etc. (with assistance of the President and/or other Board members as need dictates)
b.       Assist with check in
3)      Requirement: Must be an Active member of NEFPA.

PRESIDENT
1)      As Board chair, set the agenda and send out prior to each board meeting and guide the flow of the business;
2)      Open and adjourn each meeting;
3)      Assist with various board positions as needed; and
4)      Requirements: Candidates for the office of President must have previously served a minimum of two (2) years as a member of the Board of Directors, or one (1) year as a member of the Board of Directors and one (1) year as a Committee Chairperson, which service on the Board of Directors shall have occurred the year immediately prior to the year in which they intend to hold office as President.
